Unrealized Scenic Designs and Models

The Fog
Scenic Design I Assignment
Summer 2010

University of Minnesota Duluth

For this project we were assigned to read and analyze and design  Eugene O'Neill's The Fog being done in the Dudley Experimental Theater (University of Minnesota Duluth) in the round.

My Design concept was based in the world or mindset of a man recently diagnosed with schizophrenia. All the voices or characters are hallucinations and memories of the main character. His inability to separate the memories and connect the endings cause him to nearly have a nervous breakdown.  He considers putting himself into an institution. This concept is a combination of metaphor and literal interpretation of the script.

One section of the set consists of what looks like a beached boat emerging from the stage platform and merging into the floor boards. The rest of the platform will represent an institution the main character might commit himself to.

The Wall Project
Scenic Design I Assignment
Summer 2010

University of Minnesota Duluth

For this project we were given different restrictions and adjectives to base our design on. Mine were: Exterior, City, 1940's, and East. After doing some research I chose to do a fire escape.

The Haiku Project
Scenic Design I Assignment
Summer 2010, University of Minnesota Duluth
Duluth Minnesota

For this project we were given a list of Haikus to chose from for the base of our design.
The one I Chose was "The Puppet leaning from his booth, Blinks at the rain". I decided that I would portray the moment after one has passed on the news of a tragedy. The red represents the anger of not understanding why or how the tragedy occurred. The black and white letters represent light projections.
